Service Learning
At MYIS, service learning means using what we learn in school to make a real difference in the world around us. It is about connecting classroom learning with real-life actions that help our community.
Through service learning, students practice important skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership, while also building qualities from the IB Learner Profile—such as being caring, reflective, and open-minded. We emphasize that service is twofold: it is both action (what we do) and attitude (the mindset and values we bring to those actions). In other words, service is not only measured by visible projects but also by the compassion, responsibility, and respect we show every day.
PYP Service Learning
In the PYP, service grows naturally from inquiry and student curiosity. Even small actions—showing kindness, raising awareness, or changing habits—are valued as meaningful contributions. Students incorporate this into their projects like Grade 4 Pawsitive Difference Project pictured above.
Secondary Service Learning
In the MYP, service learning becomes more structured through Service as Action. Students plan, collaborate, reflect, and connect their learning to meaningful local and global experiences. Through these opportunities, students grow into caring, principled, and internationally minded individuals committed to making a positive impact.
